Kate is an academic specialist for the Center for Gender in Global Context, helping students with the following areas of study: Women’s and Gender Studies Major (through the College of Arts and Letters); Global and Area Studies Major (through the College of Social Science); Gender, Justice, and Environmental Change graduate specialization; Women, Gender, and Social Justice undergraduate specialization; and Gender and Global Change undergraduate specialization.
She has her M.A. in anthropology from MSU and is currently working toward her doctoral degree. Her research interests include gender and development, education, study abroad, cultural theory, and Ghana. She has studied Akan/Twi for three years and three summers with support from Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship awarded by African Studies Center. Kate’s dissertation research examines contrasting notions of culture among study abroad programs to Ghana, where she was worked over the past ten years. She has also lived, worked, and/or volunteered in Nigeria, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Taiwan. She is currently one of the coordinators for the MSU semester-long study abroad program Agriculture, Development, Environment, and Gender: NGO Internships in Ghana/Malawi. Kate previously worked for GenCen/WID as the Managing Editor of the WID Bulletin.
