Emily is currently a junior at Michigan State University, pursuing a degree in sociology. Her interests in the field concern gender and social equality. Emily spent Spring Semester 2008 abroad in Durban, South Africa, where she furthered her interests in gender studies through work with a local organization that focuses on the correlation between gender and HIV/AIDS in South Afica. At MSU, Emily has been involved with various service learning projects in the Lansing community, both at elementary schools and neighborhood centers.
