Dr. Andrea Allen has eighteen years of experience addressing international development issues, with expertise in agribusiness, natural resource management, participatory methods, gender, and indigenous populations. She has experience in strategic planning, project design, and evaluation, as well as public and private sector grant writing and fundraising. From 1994 to 1996, Dr. Allen worked for CARE, managing technical assistance teams, carrying out assessments, and providing training in livelihood security and assessment methods. She then worked for nine years on various projects with the U.S. Agency for International Development, where she advised on strategic planning to achieve heightened participation of men and women and integrated social and gender analysis into contract solicitations. She also assessed field programs to improve project design and reporting related to socio-economic and gender issues. In addition to her role with GenCen, Dr. Allen serves as Associate Director of the Center for Advanced Study of International Development. She holds a Ph.D. degree in anthropology and speaks fluent Spanish.
